Make a plain sweater stand out, or add a little extra warmth to your outfit with the layered button down look.

Sure I stole this idea from the classic school uniform look that has been around for decades, but with better pairing options and no rules, you can make this look your own in 2 easy steps. Step 1, find a form fitting button down, collared shirt in any color or pattern you enjoy. In this case, I used white because not only does it go with anything but it also happened to be the only decent fitting button down shirt in my mom's closet. Step 2, layer an equally fitted sweater over the top. The trick here is to make sure both layers, the button down underneath and the sweater, fit your body well and are not loose or baggy. It is a common misconception that the outer layer sweater should be loose to fit over the shirt underneath. You want both items to fit your body comfortably without losing your shape. V-neck sweaters work well over the top to show off the collar, but crew neck sweaters are great too. Cuffing at the bottom of your sleeves by rolling the inner shirt over the outer sweater also helps to add an extra pop. Take a look below at some of the other button down/sweater combos I found and see what you like. Remember, unlike back in the school uniform days, there are no rules here, so experiment and go nuts!
