One of my favorite things about dresses is that they are so versatile. There are so many ways to wear a single dress that you can actually come up with many different outfits.
Take this mallard green dress from LOFT. While it is a gorgeous dress on it's own and the color and thicker fabric makes it perfect for colder weather, my mom doesn't actually wear formal dresses to work that often. So I played around with it to show her how she can dress it down to make her feel more comfortable wearing it to work. By wearing a pullover sweater over the top of a dress, you can create the illusion that you are wearing a skirt. This works well with many different dress shapes, you don't have to have a sheath to make it look good. You can do this with your little black dress, or a fun patterned dress, just as long as you choose a short sleeve dress with a plain, flat top, nothing with ruffles or extra pieces that may look too bulky underneath a sweater. Add a scarf for an extra casual look and you have created an entirely new outfit. Check out some of the dress/sweater combinations I have created below.
